What Are USDT Fees Now?

Comparing USDT Gas Fees Across Blockchains: ETH, Tron, BSC, Polygon, Ton and Solana

We all know sending USDT on Ethereum can be super expensive, but just how bad is it? And what other choices do we have? I made this page, so you don't have to keep flipping through different Metamask Networks to see the gas fees for a simple USDT transfer.

USDT ETH ETH transfer fee:
1.194 USD
USDT BSC BSC transfer fee:
0.085 USD
USDT Polygon Polygon transfer fee:
0.001 USD
USDT Ton Ton transfer fee:
0.076 USD
USDT Solana Solana transfer fee:
0.01 - 0.09 USD

Keep in mind, these are rough estimates.

Here's how USDT gas fees are calculated on ETH, BEP20 & Polygon:

For networks that use the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), like ETH, BSC, and Polygon, the gas fees are calculated using the eth_estimateGas() RPC call for the USDT contract's transfer method.

Alright, but what about USDT fees on Tron (TRC20)?

Figuring out gas fees on the Tron network is a bit trickier. To send USDT TRC20, your wallet needs "energy" and "bandwidth". But you don't need any tron gas fee calculator, here's how it works:

  1. Sending USDT to a wallet that has no USDT TRC20 costs 27.25 TRX.
  2. But if you send to a wallet that already has some USDT TRC20 in it, even just 0.1 USDT, you'll only pay 13.4 TRX. Yep, having a little USDT in the receiving wallet can cut your fees in half!
  3. There's a website called Fee.Boo that has a bunch of Tron energy. It can help you cut your USDT TRC20 transfer fees by 50%. Instead of burning your own TRX to get energy to send USDT, you send half of that amount to the website, and it gives your wallet the energy it needs to finish the transfer. Basically, you're buying energy from Fee.Boo way cheaper than if you burned your own TRX. I know it sounds a bit complicated, but this is possible now because of the Stake2.0 model on the Tron blockchain.

What about BUSD and USDC fees?

When it comes to other stablecoins, the fees are pretty much the same across the board on each blockchain. So, you can safely assume that transferring BUSD(BEP20)on the BSCblockchain will cost you the same as moving USDT(BEP20)on BSC.

Some Quick Notes

As of Aug 2022, the fees on most blockchains, except for Ethereum, are pretty steady throughout the day. But the gas fee for sending USDT on Ethereum can be crazy, going from 0.5 USD to 7 USD!

TON Joins the Game

Apr 2024 saw the launch of USDT on TON(The Open Network, the blockchain that's tight with Telegram). The cost of sending USDT between two users is locked in at a cool 0.0145 TON. Plus, if you use the TON-based Wallet in Telegram, you can send USDt to your Telegram contacts anywhere in the world without any fees (we'll have to see how that goes).

The data is retrieved from blockchains every 10 minutes.
